Mar Valdecantos updated us on Mercado Local, a local marketplace sponsored by Rice County Neighbors United.
Mercado Local is located at 105 Fifth Street East and provides space for 21 vendors from eight different countries. It also has a community room available to all. It started in 2021 and received a huge boost when Jennifer Sawyer, a local business developer, underwrote the rent for a year. The group is looking for ways to become a sustainable concern.
From the Neighbors United website, "We support local artists by giving them the opportunity to exhibit their art here and also sell it, allowing them to have a place to showcase their work and keep 100% of the profit."
