June 2025 Climate Update
Climate in the news (Click titles to link to articles):
1. Staple crops around the world are threatened by rising heat. We must get off this trend line!
2. Colorado river basin aquifers are declining. 40 million people depend on the river and aquifer. Will all just wait until it is a true crisis?
3. White House gutted scientific research funding. How will that help?
Climate Education: The climate crisis was not always politically divisive.
Good climate news:
1. Clean energy is popular everywhere. Texas leads the nation in renewables.
2. Yale Report on Climate Change Communications: Yale climate research shows that the majority of Americans want more clean energy and more federal climate action - good news!
How we can help preserve a livable world for our kids and future generations:
1. Don't give up when things are tough! Don't look away. We must keep doing all we can do because every 1/10th of a degree matters.
2. Heat pumps, hot water heat pumps, EV tax credits are all available this year. We do not know if they will be next year. If you need any of these, NOW is the time to buy. Also, if you haven't yet had an energy audit, please get one from your utility, tighten up your home and save $!
3. Consider subscribing to nationally known climate scientist Dr. Katharine Hayhoe newsletter - free. See katharinehayhoe.com
4. Talk to friends and family about the weather changes you see. Connect the dots to climate change.
5. If your club or group would like a Climate Update program from me (in person if close, via Zoom if distant), let me know and we'll find a date.
