We continue working on the Centennial Project of helping low-income families get an energy audit and weatherize their homes. This saves them money on heating and cooling for the life of the building and reduces their carbon emissions. We have helped several families and are hoping to help more in the future. $5,950 spent, with funds remaining.
As a separate effort, we received a district grant, a Northfield Shares grant and some club funds, to help 5 families in Viking Terrace who own their own homes, to replace old, poor windows with modern double-glazed windows, saving them money on heating and cooling. $5,000.
We have been “tabling” at several events, to educate the public about climate change and our offer to help them weatherize their homes. For more affluent homeowners, we educate them about the various rebates available from the city and Xcel Energy, for electrifying their homes. We have done this at:
Taste of Summer event at the Red Barn, July 10, 2025
The Market Fair at the Dundas Dome, April 18, 2026
The Northfield Earth Day, at the Armory, April 25, 2026. $500, as one of event sponsors.
We will be tabling again for five Saturdays this summer, at Bridge Square. Tabling materials and handouts $750.
Since last June we have presented to six other Rotary clubs, on climate science, impacts, solutions and what every Rotary club and Rotarian can do to help reduce climate impacts.
Last June, our club, partnering with the RCAT Network of Clubs, had a booth in the Rotary International Convention in Calgary Canada, in the House of Friendship, where we educated on climate change and shared our club’s project of helping low-income families weatherize their homes. Expenses of $1,150 for booth banner, buttons & handouts, were paid by the RCAT Network of Clubs (not our club).
RCAT has worked with our in-bound exchange students in our Climate Futures program, to raise their climate awareness and work with them on a local project of reducing food waste at the high school.
We have a team investigating the possibility of upgrading the charging speed of the EV charging stations in downtown Northfield, with the city.
Looking ahead, we are partnering with others to have an Electric Vehicle test drive event this fall, and we are planning a tree planting campaign in town.
