A financial boost is coming to the Northfield Union of Youth.
The group, also known as The Key, has received a $40,000 commitment from the Rotary Club of Northfield.
The money, which will come in installments of $8,000 a year for the next five years, will help toward a loan the group received in the spring to purchase a new facility, the former Northfield Photo Memories on West Sixth Street.

Jim Pokorney, 2010 Marston Headley Service Above Self Award winner.
Jim Pokorney was named winner of the Northfield Rotary Club’s 2010 Marston Headley Service Above Self Award. Cited for his tireless work as a Northfield City Council Member, active participation in his church and willingness to jump in wherever his help is needed. Jim has been a member of the Northfield Rotary Club since 1997.
The Marston Headley Service above Self Award is given each year to a member of the club who has given of their time and energy to make the club a success and to recognize strong involvement in the community. Started by Rotary International 30 years ago, the Northfield chapter began to award it in 1988. About a decade ago, the local award was renamed in honor of Marston Headley, a long-time member, past club president and secretary for many years.

Jesse James Bike Tour Chairman Jack Hoschouer presented a check of $18,000 to Mayor Mary Rossing and City Administrator Joel Walinski to develop bike trails on the east side of the Cannon River from Northfield to Dundas. This is the first installment of the Rotary Club of Northfield’s $100,000 four-year commitment to the project.
The Jesse James Bike Tour is held annually on the Saturday after Labor Day, during Northfield’s Defeat of Jesse James Days celebration. A majority of the net proceeds from the club sponsored tour are dedicated to the Mill Towns Trail. To date, over $100,000 has been donated to the project.

The Marston Headley Service above Self Award is given each year to a member of the club who has given of their time and energy to make the club a success and to recognize strong involvement in the community. Started by Rotary International 30 years ago, the Northfield chapter began to award it in 1988. About a decade ago, the local award was renamed in honor of Marston Headley, a long-time member, past club president and secretary for many years. Marston served as a city librarian and was known for his many contributions to the Northfield community.
This award is given each year to a member of the club who has given of her/his time and energy to make this Club a success and also for strong involvement in the community.
The past three year’s winners choose the newest recipient. We need your help in nominating this year’s winner.
Please return your nomination to Vicki Dilley, Candy Taylor, John Stull, or Peggy Prowe by April 15. To help in the selection of this year’s winner, it would be very helpful to have some detail in your reasons for your choice of your particular nominee.

The Northfield Rotary Club’s Thanksgiving Day Turkey Trot drew over 500 participants this year, a new record. Proceeds from the 5k fun run/walk are earmarked as a donation to Rotary International’s PolioPlus program.
