Today: Randy Peterson, Target Regional Engineer (Madigan).

Birthdays: Jan Stevens (7/15)

Next Week: Matt Saari, Director of Product Engineering at Multek (Madigan)

Last Week:

Bill Nelson, a Northfielder, is the owner of the Iowa-based Nelson Dairy Consultants. He took over the family business from his father.

Some 20 dairy consultants, including Doug Lyons of Northfield, provide nutrition consulting services to dairy farmers across the country. They help dairy farmers determine the best mix of vitamins and nutrients for the feed being supplied to the cows.

Nelson Dairy Consultants makes its money from the sale of a daily nutritional supplement for the cows. Consultants’ sales are tracked and their compensation is directly tied to supplement sales.

Most of the dairy production in the Midwest is used for cheese production. Florida produces almost exclusively for milk consumption. Bill noted that because his business is so closely tied to the cheese industry, he follows the cheese market more closely than he does the milk market. He suggested we all eat more pizza.

Marston Headly Award:

Michelle Lasswell and Brad Frago were named this year’s recipients of the Marston Headley Service Above Self Award. Past recipients Jean Wakely and Jack Hoschouer made the presentation.

The award is given each year to members of the club who have given of their time and energy to make the club a success and have invested in the community. Michelle and Brad have both accepted leadership roles in the club, Michelle as a board member, Brad as our district’s Youth Protection Officer. They have also been strong supporters of the Youth Exchange Program. They have volunteered as club counselors for inbound students going on five years.  Congratulations Michelle and Brad. Now the coveted Rotary shovel has a new home for the next 12 months.

We’re looking to fill a board position for this year. The community service directorship is open. All members who are interested in serving this year or in the future should contact any board member. The club is now accepting applications for a local service project. All details, including the guidelines, process, and application, can be found on the club’s website on the Service page.
