Northfield Police Update

Chief Mark Elliott will provide an update on new programs and changes that took place in the department in 2021 and 2022 including a new Policy Manual, body cameras, Emergency Operations Plan, community mental health resources, and many others. Mark has served over 31 years in law enforcement and is the current Police Chief of the Northfield Police Department.

Mark’s previous experience includes Police Chief in Prior Lake from 2015-2019, and prior to that 22 years with the Bloomington Police Department serving in a variety of positions in patrol and investigative capacities as well as supervisory positions, rising to the rank of Commander. Mark has a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice and a Master of Arts degree in Organizational Leadership from St. Mary’s University. He is a graduate of the International Association of Chiefs of Police Leadership in Police Organizations course, and Northwestern University’s School of Police Staff and Command.

Mark has served on many regional and state level boards and working groups focused on law enforcement and public employee matters. He has testified before the state legislature several times as a subject matter expert on law enforcement topics. Mark has two adult daughters out thriving in the world and an adult son in college. He has many years of experience coaching and officiating youth athletics and serving in volunteer and board positions for youth sports. He is a big brother in the Big Brothers Big Sisters Program, and an advisor to Protector’s Peak, a Christian based support program for police officers and their families that hosts local seminars and runs a retreat center in the mountains of Idaho.
