Today’s Program | Thursday, May 19, 2016

Today: Kim Briske, Classification (Hillmann)

Birthdays: Russ Halverson (5/15), Daniel Knutson (5/17), Keith Covey and Jon Snodgrass (5/19), Robert Flaten (5/21).

Next Week: Griff Wigley and Marty Larson, CROCT (Heineman)

Last Week: The fabulous Northfield Troubadours provided a sampler of their upcoming Spring Concert, Sunday, May 22, 3 p.m. at Bethel Lutheran Church in Northfield. The group is comprised of singers age 60 to 90. The average age is 76, and they sing their hearts out.

We learned more about Believet, a local nonprofit that trains and provides service dogs free of charge to veterans with post-traumatic stress issues. John Sinning is involved and promoted a fundraiser that was held last Friday.

Jane Fenton demonstrated the “click” technique she uses in the canine training classes she offers through Countryside Kennels. Xena, a rescue dog, was her pupil. After a short 10-minute explanation of intermittent reinforcement, Jane had us all rolling over and looking plaintively for a treat. Jane is working with Xena on socialization, and then Xena will serve as an ambassador for Believet.

Service Above Self:
Rob Martin was recognized with a “Service Above Self” award for all of his work on feeding the legions of bike tour participants and working on the community Save the Depot effort. President Halverson noted that Rob is the kind of individual who works tirelessly behind the scenes for the good of the group.
