Today’s Program: The Challenges of Today’s

“Big Time” College Sports” –

Joel Maturi, U of M Athletic Director (Brown)

Happy Birthday: Mike Lane 8/5

Next Week:  5:30 pm – Rotary Road Rally and dinner at the Estenson Event Center.   No noon meeting!

Last Meeting:

Paul Niemisto, St. Olaf faculty member and expert on Finnish brass music, is both founder and conductor of the Cannon Valley Regional Orchestra, which has been pleasing audiences since 1979 and continues to thrive.  The CVRO provides wonderful opportunities for amateur and professional musicians throughout the area to express their love of performing orchestral music.

The CVRO is a program of the Northfield Arts Guild and provides a series of four or five concerts annually in various venues in the Canon Valley area.  See for details about the programs, locations and ticket sales for their 2011-12 season.  Paul is always looking for violists and violinists.

Mini-Classification: Richard Collman’s skills in song leading and in organizing the annual noon organ recital series are well known to us.  Richard and his wife Catherine retired here after many years of ministry in the Methodist Church in MN and SD with the longest stay in Sioux Falls.  Raised west of Duluth, son of a piano teaching mother, Richard attended UMD and Yale Divinity School and enjoys gardening, sailing, travel and of course, music.

Guests: Bob Craig (Estenson)

Visiting Rotarian: Newell Krogmann, Past District Governor and current District Foundation Committee Chair, presented a check for $2,900 to the club and encouraged members to participate in the “Every Member Every Year” donation campaign.

Scholarship Enhancement: Dale Ness
