Todd Ginter sees the potential in bringing bikers to Rice County.

He is Director of Tourism & Communication at Faribault Area Chamber of Commerce & Tourism and the Rice County representative for Explore Minnesota. And although it is difficult to quantify the economic impact of bike tourism, he said it is important to attract those biking fanatics to the area.

He sees the benefits every day as people park at the trailhead near his office and strike off on the Sahkatah State Trail. It is a 39-mile trail linking Faribault to Mankato. It follows an old railroad bed and provides great scenery and great bird watching as it winds through Sahkata Singing Hills State Park. There are also nine miles of trail in Faribault proper that are connected to Sahkata and some times overlooked..

Todd said the Rotary Bike Tour is a great event that introduces bikers to the area. Once the Mill Town Trail is connected to the Sahkata there will be even more reasons for bikers to visit southeastern Minnesota.
