Today: Save the Northfield Depot “video tour” of the depot restoration by Alice Thomas.

Next Week: David Stanford, Classification Talk

Birthdays: David Wolf (6/6)

Statement of Purpose: Northfield Rotary Club is dedicated to promoting peace and understanding through service and shared experience. We invite people from all corners of the community to join us as we partner with others to support youth, build sustainable infrastructure and preserve our planet.

From left, President Lasswell, Peg Prowe and Gene Enders, treasurer of Friends of Mill Towns Trail.

Last Week:
After dining on the deck at Dawn’s Bar in Dundas on what turned out to be a picture postcard day, Rotary members retired to the trail head kiosk across the street and presented Friends of Mill Towns Trail with a check for $10,300, half the proceeds from the Defeat of Jesse James Bike Tour. The funds will contribute to further trail development.

We also got a look at the new trail head kiosk and the interpretative panels that tell a slice of the mill towns’ story. Kari Alberg, who coordinated the work on the interpretative panels, said they identify the many mills that were powered by the Cannon River in the 19th century, provide history of the Dundas mills in particular and combine that information with facts about the evolution of the environment and bio-sphere in the region. Her hope, Kari said, is that the vignettes presented on the panels will spur research on other mills in the area.

Before the presentations, Larry Fowler. a 40-year resident of Dundas and currently a member of its city council, served as a one-person Dundas Chamber of Commerce, lauding the safety and economic vitality of the community.

Guests: Geogene and John Jackson (Stull); Mary Auge, John McCarthy, Scott Haugen, Gene Enders and Joel Wagar (Prowe); Kelly Chang (Hoschouer); Matt Deter (Halverson); and Fred Burch (Estenson).
