Michelle Muench’s life has come full circle. The daughter of Terry and Julie Heilman, she grew up in Northfield and has recently returned to practice ophthalmology in her hometown. After graduating from Northfield High School and Gustavus Adolphus College, she went to medical school at the University of Minnesota and performed her residency at University of Texas – Southwestern in Dallas, Texas.

She said it is no accident she ended up an ophthalmologist. Her adopted brother was blind from birth. From an early age, Michelle was very aware of the challenges and the resources available to visually impaired people.

Michelle practiced in Faribault for several years before establishing her own practice in Northfield. She is in clinic Tuesday and Thursday at Northfield Hospital’s Northfield Eye Physician & Surgeons Clinic, which is located at River Valley Vision Centers in Northfield. She performs surgeries at Northfield Hospital most Wednesdays. She said it has been gratifying to work in her hometown and reconnect with so many people who have been part of her story.

Michelle is married to Clinton Muench, MD, a orthopedic surgeon with Orthopaedic & Fracture Clinic. They live in Northfield with their three sons.
