The Really Big News: Mayor Mary Rossing announced that the new Mill Town Trail bridge that was recently placed across the Cannon River near on the north end of the rodeo site heretofore shall be called the Peg Prowe Pedestrian Bridge. This was formalized by resolution by the Northfield City Council to honor Peg for her tireless work as an advocate for the Mill Town Trail.

Throwback week. We heard mini-classifications from three of our distinguished, longstanding members. Here they are, lightning round fashion:

Earl Crow – U.S. Naval Corp (1942-46), College of St. Thomas, Macalester and the University of Minnesota; chemical engineer; worked in International Falls; cold; moved to Northfield in 1965; worked for Sheldahl and others; raised family here; joined Rotary in 1991.

Orv Marks – Lester Prairie; printer; almost died from bone tumor; discharged from service in 1944 for medical reasons; came to Northfield; married Doris Nelson and had four children, three of whom play the bassoon; bought College City Press in 1973; sold the business to his son, Alan; eventually retired in 1995; big sports fan; enjoys woodworking; joined Rotary in 1965.

John Ophaug – Grew up in Excelsior; Carleton College lured him to Northfield; opened law practice here in 1977; married to Patsy; they have two children; his hobbies include running and woodworking; joined Rotary in 1983. It was Dale Dodson’s fault.

New Members: Lee Lawlor, a former educator and small business- person (Williams), and Ross Thompson, a commercial banker with Community Resource Bank (Weber), were inducted into the club.

Guests: Our intrepid exchange students — Elisa; Ryota, Matheus and Pablo (Williams)

Scholarship Enhancement: Peg Prowe, with an assist from Greg Carlson.
