Peggy Prowe Honored by Mayor Rossing

April 30, 2009

Members of Northfield Rotary received two wonderful pieces of news today: 1) The new 200 ft. steel span bridge across the Cannon River is now in place, and connects the east bank of the river to its west bank near Sechler Park. This long-awaited bridge offers safe crossing for pedestrians and bicyclists, and is expected to be completed at some time this summer. 2) The name of this span, in honor of the person who has spearheaded all efforts to complete the Mill Towns Bike Trail, has been decided by the City Council to be the Peggy Prowe Bridge. This surprise announcement was given at the weekly Rotary meeting today, April 30, by Northfield Mayor, Mary Rossing, also a Rotary member.

This photo suggests that Peggy was pleased at this news, and who can blame her? Her work on this project has been herculean! Rotary president, Laurie Williams, looks on approvingly as Mayor Rossing reads her statement. Eddscn0641dscn0627dscn0642
